Ministry Journey

While in college, Melvin re-dedicated his life to Christ and his Christian journey officially began. He announced his call into God’s service in May of 1997, ministered his first sermon in December of 1997, and became a locally licensed minister at Orange Grove Missionary Baptist Church during that same time-frame. He was ordained for global ministry by the East Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Association in February of 2001. His ministry experience includes Couples’ Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Bible Study, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Praise and Worship. Pastor Melvin ministers in song with his wife and their best friends in a group called Fire 4 Him. He also writes and produces gospel music. Now, as Pastor of The Well Fellowship, Pastor Melvin is embarking on what he believes is his true passion and purpose in the city of Durham, and that is to build the church into a city within a city where God’s name dwells.

Additionally, he and his wife are the President and Chief Creative Officer respectively of Oasis Ministries, a Christian Education ministry that focuses on assisting churches with training and resources. Through this vision, Pastor Melvin has ministered at numerous churches and ministry functions on subjects that include Teacher/ Volunteer Training, Singles’ Ministry, and Praise and Worship. Pastor Melvin loves the Lord and loves to share God’s Word in relevant and practical ways. Melvin seeks to live each day as a true servant leader.

All about Jesus Christ

One of his favorite passages is from Luke 4:16-20 where Jesus reads the scroll from the prophet Isaiah and read from Isaiah 61:1-2 we Jesus reads “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” He especially loves when Jesus rolls up the scroll in front of everyone and says “Today as you listen, this Scripture has been fulfilled.”

Another favorite comes from Luke 24:44 where the resurrected Christ appears to His disciples and says “These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” He reminds His students that everything from past to present to future was about Jesus Christ!
